‘Glaze’, an end to AI- Generated Art Imitators

Glaze, a free software has been released by the research team at the University of Chicago that can prevent generative AI from copying an artist’s style. The software works by making tiny modifications to the digital images which are completely invisible to the human eye.

These changes work like a ‘style cloak’ for the images when posted online, explains the team working behind the project. The team further adds that when generative AI finds an image guarded by Glaze, it will be not be able to accurately analyze and copy its style.

The Doctoral student In-Charge of the Glaze project, Shawn Shan states, “AI has been evolving too fast, and there must be some guardrails or regulations around it”. The In-Charge further adds, “The goal of this is to push back from a technical standpoint.”

The software Glaze and other similar projects aim to protect artists until any defensive regulations and laws are implemented.
