Google Plans YouTube App for Apple’s Vision Pro Headset

New Delhi: Google has recently announced that it will launch a YouTube app specifically for Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which will be a significant update for Vision Pro users who currently only have access to YouTube through the Safari web browser.

According to a Google spokesperson, the development of a dedicated YouTube app for the Vision Pro headset is on their roadmap, but there are no specific plans for it yet. Currently, Vision Pro users can only access YouTube through the Safari web browser, as Google, along with Spotify and Netflix, has declined to allow its iPad apps to run on the headset.

Apple’s spokesperson has previously mentioned that YouTube’s 360 and 3D videos are not up to the mark for the Vision Pro headset. She explained that much of this content was created for devices that do not deliver a high-quality spatial experience, and in some cases, this content could also cause motion discomfort.

Google has not yet provided the exact launch timeline for its YouTube app for the Vision Pro headset, so it is unclear if it will simply be a tweaked version of the iPad app or if it will add much more functionality.

Vision Pro users cannot view VR videos from other mediums since the Safari browser does not support WebXR. However, Apple is reportedly working on this issue, but it might take some time.

This development marks a significant step towards enhancing the user experience of the Apple Vision Pro headset. It will be interesting to see how Google’s dedicated YouTube app will transform the way users interact with YouTube on the Vision Pro headset.
