New Cloud Storage Service Launched by Japanese Tech Giant Rakuten Symphony

New Delhi: Rakuten Symphony, a leading Japanese technology company, has officially introduced its cloud storage service, Rakuten Drive, for full-scale commercial use in Japan. While the service offers a competitive 10GB of complimentary storage, its most notable feature is its unlimited file transfer service.

Catering to both individual and corporate clientele, Rakuten Drive facilitates secure large file transfers, along with intuitive cloud-based file storage and sharing. In addition, the service seamlessly integrates Microsoft 365 productivity applications, allowing for real-time document, presentation, and spreadsheet viewing and editing.

Ryan Son (CEO-Rakuten Symphony Korea) said, “Our file storage cloud service enables users to safely and efficiently manage their valuable personal and business files and data.”

Further, he said, “From freelancers and small business owners to large companies, our promise is to continue to develop Rakuten Drive as a trusted and secure cloud service of choice.”

Originally introduced as Sendy in 2019, the platform became part of Rakuten Symphony in 2021 following the company’s acquisition of Estmob, its South Korean developer. Despite witnessing significant growth in Japan and internationally, Rakuten Drive was not previously available for commercial use.

Moreover, the consumer version of Rakuten Drive seamlessly integrates with Rakuten ID, a universal ID that enables Rakuten members in Japan (totaling 100 million) to access various services using their existing login credentials.

Rakuten Symphony asserts that Rakuten Drive strictly adheres to stringent data storage and information security protocols. The company has affirmed its commitment to ongoing service development and introducing additional features targeted at the business-to-business market.

This is to serve freelancers, small businesses, and major enterprises. Furthermore, plans are underway for the integration of Rakuten Points, the company’s loyalty program, into Rakuten Drive.

For users needing expanded cloud storage and advanced features, Rakuten Drive PRO is now available at a monthly subscription of $7.99. This version enhances the maximum file upload size per link to 50GB, provides customizable link expiration times (up to 30 days compared to the free version’s 48 hours), and increases cloud storage to 1TB.
