New York: ChatGPT fame OpenAI is once again hitting the headlines for its maiden acquisition in the form of New York-based startup Global Illumination. The term deal has not been disclosed yet, but this is OpenAI’s first public acquisition in its seven years of history.
Founded by Thomas Dimson, Taylor Gordon, and Joey Flynn, Global Illumination leverages AI to build creative tools, infrastructure, and digital experiences.
In a brief post published on its official blog, OpenAI said, “The entire team has joined OpenAI to work on our core products including ChatGPT. The team previously designed and built products early on at Instagram and Facebook and have also made significant contributions at YouTube, Google, Pixar, Riot Games, and other notable companies.”
The company further said, “We’re very excited for the impact they’ll (Global Illumination) have here at OpenAI.”
Global Illumination’s most recent creation is Biomes. It is a Minecraft-like open-source sandbox multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) built for the web.
