Siemens Unveils Cloud-Based Cybersecurity Software for Industrial Operators

New Delhi: Siemens has introduced SINEC Security Guard, an advanced cybersecurity software-as-a-service which is tailored for industrial operators. The new update is scheduled for release in July 2024, and it is designed to automate vulnerability mapping and security management in operational technology (OT) environments.

Dirk Didascalou, CTO of Siemens Digital Industries emphasized “With SINEC Security Guard, customers can focus their resources on the most urgent and relevant vulnerabilities, while having full risk transparency in their factory”.

“It is unique because it takes the specific situation of the customer’s operational environment into consideration while providing a single pane of glass for security-relevant information in the OT area.”

The software offers automated assignment of known cybersecurity vulnerabilities to production assets, enabling operators without dedicated cybersecurity expertise to identify risks on the shop floor. It provides a risk-based threat analysis and recommends prioritized mitigation measures for streamlining the process for industrial automation experts.

Additionally, SINEC Security Guard also integrates with Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft’s Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution, for comprehensive IT and OT cybersecurity. This integration will provide proactive threat detection, investigation, and response, enhancing overall security posture.

Furthermore, the software supports manual asset information uploads and signature-based network intrusion and attack detection through the SINEC Security Guard Sensor, an Industrial Edge app. This app offers real-time insights into industrial network security.

The initial release only supports Siemens OT assets, Siemens plans to include third-party device support in future updates. SINEC Security Guard complements Siemens’ existing OT network security software portfolio, which includes SINEC Security Inspector and SINEC Security Monitor.

Industrial operators are encouraged to use Siemens’ cloud-based Asset Management solution, the Industrial Asset Hub, for continuous automated asset inventory management. The SINEC Security Guard Sensor App is available for download from the Siemens Industrial Edge Marketplace to provide users with enhanced visibility and control over their industrial networks.
