New Delhi: Canva, a leading web-based design platform, has acquired the Affinity Creative Software suite, establishing itself as a valuable contender against Adobe’s dominance in the digital design sector.
The announcement about the acquisition was made on Tuesday, which has helped the company gain control over Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher- all of the widely used creative tools available for Windows, Mac, and iPad.
These applications are designed to provide features and functionalities like those offered by Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign software.
The precise financial details of the deal have not been revealed; however, as per Bloomberg, the deal is valued at “seven hundred million (British) pounds”.
The popularity of the Affinity apps knows no boundaries as they are used by approximately 3 million users globally, a fraction of Adobe’s user base, according to Canva.
In an exclusive interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Canva co-founder Cameron Adams said, “Affinity applications will remain separate from Canva’s platform, but that some small integrations should be expected over time. Our product teams have already started chatting, and we have some immediate plans for lightweight integration, but we think the products themselves will always be separate.”
With Affinity and its 90 UK-based employees joining Canva, the company is all set to enhance its competitiveness against Adobe across the extensive creative software market.
