New Delhi: Alphabet’s Google is planning to charge for premium features on its AI-driven search engine. This news came from the sources that are familiar with the matter, said The Financial Times.
The company is exploring various options, such as integrating AI-powered search functionalities into its premium subscription services, which also provide Gemini AI assistant in Gmail and Docs.
Google’s traditional search engine will remain free. Moreover, this will be the first time Google will be charging a premium for its core product in the AI space.
“We’re not working on or considering an ad-free search experience. As we’ve done many times before, we’ll continue to build new premium capabilities and services to enhance our subscription offerings across Google,” the company told Reuters in an emailed statement.
The move comes as Google competes with industry giants like OpenAI and Microsoft.
