“Free Forever, But They Use Your PC for Data Collection”
Bright VPN claims to be “free forever,” and that’s true—you get unlimited bandwidth with no speed restrictions. It's safe-listed by AVG, McAfee, and Microsoft Defender, which put me at ease. But soon after using it, I learned it occasionally fetches public web data (like ads or flight prices) through my PC—something I need to consent to. It’s a clever funding model, but not something I was expecting. Also, there’s no Mac or mobile app yet, I'm told they're coming. And unfortunately, it didn’t work with Netflix, so if streaming is your thing, skip this one.
Pros :
Unlimited bandwidth, no speed limits, no throttling, Windows AV safe-listed.
Cons :
Public data collection, Windows-only for now, no Netflix streaming.
Switched from :
Proton VPN
Reason to switch :
I left ProtonVPN to avoid monthly data limits and enjoy a truly unlimited free plan—although now I'm trading privacy nuances.
