Recently, Zscaler announced it will soon acquire a startup named Canonic Security to protect against attacks on software-as-a-service as concerns about the security of data in SaaS apps mount.

Canonic Security enables companies to evaluate the security of the applications and integrations that are tied to a certain SaaS software.

As per the company, many firms have already adopted SaaS-based applications. On this, the company stated, “Their users are connecting thousands of third-party applications and browser extensions to their critical SaaS platforms like Atlassian Suite, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and Slack without IT’s permission. Canonic’s solution allows cybersecurity and IT teams to quickly gain visibility to this ungoverned surface area and streamline SaaS application governance and enforcement.”

Zscaler stated that it will include Canonic’s capabilities into its recently unveiled data protection offering, including by strengthening both its SaaS security posture management (SSPM) tool and cloud access security broker (CASB) solution.

Zscaler, a well-known supplier of zero trust security technologies like ZTNA (zero-trust network access) is now broadening its product line as attackers continue to target other susceptible systems and more companies take steps to secure their systems for application access.

Max Shier (Chief Information Security Officer, Optiv) said, “You see that threats are already changing with a lot of zero trust architecture and zero trust principles being put in place. You see the threat landscape changing where it’s more focused now on supply chain security and APIs.”

Adding on to it, Shier further said, “I think the bigger hacks that you’re going to see this year, and I think you already see it, are leveraging vulnerabilities in APIs and supply chain”.
