New Delhi: Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, has launched an innovative AI project named “Hanooman” through Seetha Mahalaxmi Healthcare (SML). Ambani teamed up with IIT Bombay and eight other Indian Institutes of Technology to bring AI to the masses in India. This project is called “BharatGPT,” and it focuses on breaking language barriers to make AI accessible to diverse users across the country.

Unlike any other traditional AI models, Hanooman offers more than just text-based interactions. It offers multimodal capabilities to understand and generate content in text, speech, and video formats. The project plans to release a range of Hanooman models, varying in size from 1.5 billion to 40 billion parameters, next month.

One thing to note is that these models will be open-sourced, encouraging developers and researchers to create specialized applications for various sectors.

Due to India’s linguistic diversity, Hanooman will initially support 11 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Marathi. The project plans to include all 22 Indian languages. This initiative aims to revolutionize access to information and communication for millions who do not speak English fluently. Hanooman’s potential applications span healthcare, governance, financial services, education, and beyond, promising inclusivity and empowerment for India as it embraces the AI revolution.
