New Delhi: The U.S. House of Representatives has banned the use of Microsoft’s Copilot which is a generative AI assistant on the official devices. This directive came from a memo by Catherine Szpindor, House’s Chief Administrative Officer.
The memo stated all the concerns related to the data leakage risks due to unauthorized cloud services. However, the employees can use Copilot on their personal devices.
She said on this ban, “The Microsoft Copilot application has been deemed by the Office of Cybersecurity to be a risk to users due to the threat of leaking House data to non-House approved cloud services.”
On this a Microsoft spokesperson said that they were planning to create a roadmap for Microsoft AI tools such as Copilot that comply with federal government security and compliance requirements.
The policymakers are analyzing the potential threats or risks in the federal agency adoption of AI and all the measures needed to be taken to safeguard individual privacy.
In 2023, two Democratic and Republican U.S. senators has posed the legislation to ban the AI use that generates false content which depicts candidates in advertisements that influence federal elections.
