IBM acquires Israel-based Polar Security to assist companies eliminate the issue of exposing the sensitive information in any public cloud or Saas solutions like Slack, Office365, etc. According to IBM’s security director, Eric Maass, Polar Security is excellent at representing vulnerabilities to customers.

According to the TechCrunch reports, the acquisition deal was closed in $60 million. Polar Security has annual sales of $6.4 million and its valuation is between $9 and $13 million. It was established by Guy Shanny who worked as a security researcher at the Prime Minister’s Office of Israel and Roey Yaacovi, who worked as a software engineer at Check Point and PM Office.

Eric Maass appreciated Polar to identify and extract all the sensitive data that a user had put into a cloud data store any SaaS app without any notiification. It can also highlight the ways an organization data can be accessed by hacker in a visual form for customers.

IBM is planning to add Polar’ technology into its Guardium Insights product that focuses on data auditing and compliance in a hybrid cloud environment. The platform expertise in data security posture management will complement the investments made by IBM in analytics and data monitoring to create a broader platform.

Maass also stated that Guardium Insights is working good for auditing. However, Polar’s technology is required to identify which departments are pouring the sensitive data in SaaS apps.

Guardium with Polar’s security feature will appeal to both small and big enterprises to safeguard the sensitive organization data. It will be provided within Guardium and also on stand-alone basis.

IBM is also planning to track their customer’s experience of adopting the data security posture management technology and ensuring it compliments with customers security needs.
