Pollution Checks at Petrol Pumps: The Way Ahead

Last Updated: August 2, 2023

While the automobile industry is boosting employment opportunities and making travel easier for people in India, it is also contributing to air pollution.

According to a WHO report, India has 13 of the world’s 20 most polluted cities in the world. Also, the level of PM10 and PM2.5 (particles with diameters of 10 microns and 2.5 microns respectively) is alarmingly high in India.

Both passenger vehicles and private vehicles are causing severe air pollution threats across major cities in India. Many passenger and private vehicles which earlier ran on petrol are now having diesel versions, leading to higher pollution levels. Older vehicles, adulterated fuels, and negligent emission norms in India are further turning Indian cities into gas chambers.

We are in dire need of taking critical measures to curb air pollution. And, to have clean air to breathe, India needs a drastic leap in terms of policies. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that air pollution has turned into one of the biggest concerns and demands government and people fight together against it.

Fortunately, there’re some reasons to breathe the sigh of relief!

Lifting strict limits on toxic air limits, many state governments in India are planning to introduce new policies against air pollution. Take for instance Assam. The state government is going to roll out a policy soon that makes PUC (pollution under control) certificate mandatory for any vehicle. However, failing to which you can also be denied fuel at petrol pumps.

The “no PUC, no fuel” policy is likely to be on the lines of the state government’s previous policy “no helmet, no petrol”. This was launched to ensure the safety of two-wheeler riders.

Not just Assam, but many other states are following suit. Very soon, every petrol pump in Bihar is going to have a PUC center.

The government’s strict measures on PUC are not new. If you are driving a vehicle in Delhi/ NCR without a valid PUC certificate, get ready to pay the penalty of Rs. 1000. And for every subsequent offense of violation, people have to shell out Rs. 2000.

All Hands Together in the Fight Against Pollution

While the government and people are making their contribution to the cause of curbing air pollution, petrol pump owners also need to play their cards right. And, by having a PUC at the fuel station, petrol pump owners can play their part quite well. Their dependence on technology solutions like petrol pump management software can help them take a major leap to a greener and cleaner future.

How to Open an Authorized Auto Pollution Control Checking Center in India

If you own a petrol pump, you can directly approach the Transport Commissioner’s Office of your city to register for an authorized auto pollution control checking center. Remember that the authorization is valid only for 1-year. Post that a review will be conducted by the transport office to decide whether to renew the authorization or not.

Once you get the PUC authorization, what next

Getting the PUC authorization successfully is just the beginning of your contribution to keeping your city clean from fuel pollution. The next major challenge is to handle PUC and petrol pump management manually. Here you can take the help of petrol pump management software like Le Petro, which can be used for customer handling, database management, stock management, meter reading, and a lot more. Le Petro petrol pump management software also comes with the additional features of powerful security, data backup, and data freezing. These ensure that the information of regular customers at your fuel station and PUC is managed securely.

The SMS facility of petrol pump software can further help you stay connected with your customers. You can also send them alert reminders in case their PUC certification is about to expire. This way, you can save them from the unnecessary hassle of paying fines and win back their trust!
