  • Under the Event Pattern tab, you are supposed to keep the event source as AWS services, and for the AWS service, select EC2.
  • You are supposed to select 'EC2 Instance State-Change Notification' for the event type.
  • Now, keep your default settings for 'Any state' and 'Any instance', then click on the next tab.
  • Choose the 'SN topic' for the target.

Make a rule template for the EC2 state change events. Next, open the Amazon EventBridge console. In the navigation pane, select Rules, then click on Create Rule. Enter a name and description for your rule. For example, name your rule TestRule. For Event Bus, select the event bus to associate with this rule. Select Default if you want this rule to match events in your account. Whenever an AWS service in your account emits an event, it goes to the account's default event bus. For Rule Type, select Rule with event pattern. Select Next. For the event source, select AWS Events or EventBridge Partner Events. In the Event Template field, select AWS Service in the Event Source field. Under AWS Service, select EC2. For Event Type, select EC2 instance state change notification. Select Next. Then the event template will be displayed.
