IndusInd was founded in 1994 with the vision to serve resident and non-resident Indians with digitized banking experience. IndusInd Bank has always valued technology and innovation to ensure unparalleled customer responsiveness.

To continue offering vital banking solutions as the number of customer transactions increases, IndusInd required a compatible platform with all types of cloud infrastructure and can also support its mobile-first strategy.

Challenges Faced by IndusInd Bank

The team at IndusInd was looking for a solution that can take care of the Bank’s critical workloads while ensuring uninterrupted availability of their services.

Only with the right technology support, the Bank can adopt a mobile-first strategy and deliver a faster and hassle-free experience through custom applications.

IndusInd also had to ensure the security and speed of mobile applications that their clients were using. In addition, optimizing the time to market for their services was another priority of the management at IndusInd Bank.

Hybrid Cloud Solution with VMware for Glitch-Free Banking Services

VMware performed a thorough analysis of IndusInd Bank’s customer applications and the services’ landscape. Then, based on the growing needs of the Bank, VMware created a strategic roadmap for the digital-first data center.

During the first 3-year tenure, from 2016 to 2019, VMware aggressively worked towards migrating all operations of the Bank from its Wintel/Linux server to the Software Defined Data Center. With this strategy, IndusInd Bank successfully addressed granular security, consistency, and efficiency.

VMware adopted a host of solutions like VMware Workspace ONE, which served as a single console for different functions like Cross ISV, Cross Form, and Cross Platform. It also supported mobile deployment.

VMware Workspace ONE has played a significant role in increasing the productivity of IndusInd Bank’s employees.

The bank has already developed multiple applications on Workspace SDKs. In fact, the IndusMobile app for banking is also hosted on the VMware Cloud for secure and speedy transactions, especially in the time of Pandemic.

The Bank also deployed other VMware solutions like VMware NSX® Advanced Load Balancer, which added reliability to application provisioning across all data centers.

In the second phase, 2019-20, VMware emphasized creating a scalable hybrid cloud environment for the applications to scale. VMware Cloud on AWS allows the bank to support its mission-critical customer applications with the help of its empowered IT teams.

The VMware AWS association also opened the door for the Bank to avail AWS native services and deliver outstanding digital experiences.

Bridging the Gap Between IT Operations & Applications Development with VMware and Tanzu

VMware vRealize Suite combined with Tanzu provides the much-needed insights to streamline operations for the Bank’s IT team. Thus, making it faster and easier to react in case of business disruptions and take corrective actions.

The vSphere with Tanzu combination empowers their IT team by creating a better understanding of the data flow and the overall data architecture.

Other benefits of VMware with Tanzu are agile operations with streamlined application development and innovation. It is also easier to publish and run applications that are operating outside the Kubernetes cluster.

App developers also get the freedom to create access policies and define their load balancers.

The Road Ahead

“A robust platform needs a scalable and agile solution that could handle a significant increase in customer transactions in both assisted and direct channels.” – Biswabrata Chakravorty CIO, IndusInd Bank.

To create a robust platform for our evolving digital experience capabilities, we needed a scalable and agile solution that could handle a significant increase in customer transactions in both assisted and direct channels.

For mission-critical workloads, VMware Cloud on AWS allowed us to enhance the on-premise private cloud set-up, with the flexibility to scale up on demand across private clouds in AWS and on-premise, thereby ensuring that we leverage the proven capabilities of scale with consistency and availability for our businesses.

IndusInd Bank has today created a robust IT infrastructure to develop a new application faster to fulfill any business need. In addition, their data centers have been modernized to ensure security and scalability.
