Overview of Brave Browser

As a frequent internet user, I am always concerned about my online privacy and how I can protect it, and Brave Browser stands out as an amazing Browser software that helps secure my surfing activity. Packed with a set of features, it ensures a swift and secure browsing experience. Brave not only shields users from unwanted ads but also offers rewards for their attention. It is a must-have browser that redefines the way we surf the web.

What is Brave Browser?

Brave Browser is a free and open-source web browser focused on privacy and security. Built on the Chromium codebase, like Google Chrome, it blocks ads and trackers by default, making browsing faster and protecting your online activity. Brave also offers unique features like built-in Tor integration for anonymous browsing and a private browsing mode that doesn't store any browsing history. With its focus on privacy and speed, Brave has become a popular choice for those who want a more secure and enjoyable web browsing experience.

Brave Browser Pricing

Brave Browser is completely free to use and available on the official website for desktop, Android, and iOS platforms.

What can Brave Browser Do?

  • Default Privacy Standards: Brave Browser prioritizes your privacy by default, it blocks ads and trackers during your online sessions. Brave Ads allows you to earn rewards without compromising security.

overview-of-brave-browser

  • Ad Blocking & Cookie Control: Brave Browser automatically shields you from unwanted ads and trackers, while giving you full control over online cookies to make sure a cleaner, more private browsing experience.
  • HTTPS Upgrading & Script Blocking: It secures your online activities with HTTPS upgrading, which strengthens site connections, and script blocking feature that avoids harmful scripts for improved browsing.
  • Built-in Security: Offers hassle-free security with Brave Wallet integrated into the browser, eliminating the need for third-party extensions.
  • Firewall + VPN: Brave Browser offers security to every app across desktop, Android, and iOS. It also ensures comprehensive online protection throughout and after your searches.

What are a Few Limitations of Brave Browser?

Brave browser offers strong privacy features but like any software, it comes with a few limitations that users should take into consideration:

  • Limited extension support: Compared to Chrome and Firefox, Brave has a smaller library of extensions. While it covers essential categories, niche or specific-use extensions might be missing.
  • Website compatibility issues: Brave's ad-blocking can sometimes break website layouts or functionalities. Some sites rely on specific ads for proper functioning and blocking them might disrupt the experience.
  • Privacy concerns: Brave Browser has made Brave Search its default search engine and falls short of its promise of user privacy. Some users say that their data is being collected for ad targeting.
  • Less market share: Compared to Chrome and Firefox, Brave has a smaller user base. This can mean fewer developer resources dedicated to the browser, potentially impacting features and bug fixes.

Techjockey’s Verdict

Brave Browser stands as an amazing software. It comes with a range of features, and it not only prioritizes user privacy but also makes sure you are browsing fast. Brave simplifies online interactions with its ad-blocking capabilities and privacy features. While it might not fit in everyone’s needs, the browser's commitment to speed and privacy makes it an ideal choice.

“Privacy is tight—but switching settings anywhere takes time”

I switched from Firefox because Brave had stronger default privacy blocks—fingerprinting randomization, behind the scenes HTTPS upgrades. Browsing feels safer. But some sites break until I disable a shield, so switching modes per site got old fast.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Mozilla Firefox

Reason to switch : Wanted maximum privacy by default, without juggling extensions.

“Less resource and battery drain—especially on mobile”

I switched from Brave competitor Kiwi Mobile but stuck with Brave because it uses less data and my phone battery lasts longer each day. On desktop it still uses more RAM than lightweight browsers like Firefox, but runs leaner than Chrome.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Google Chrome

Reason to switch : Needed mobile browsing efficiency on limited-data and battery.

“Supports Chrome extensions and most work”

I switched from Safari to Brave on desktop because I could keep using my favorite Chrome add-ons. Overall compatibility is great. A few extensions misbehave here and there, but nothing truly critical so far.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Safari

Reason to switch : Needed Chrome extension support on macOS with more privacy.

“Feels safer, but Chrome is still snappier”

I left Chrome for Brave months ago because I was fed up with Google's tracking. Brave made me feel more secure. But recently when I used Chrome again—things just felt snappier. Maybe it's placebo, but there's a perception Chrome is lighter on animations or responsiveness.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Google Chrome

Reason to switch : Wanted privacy, yet missed the buttery feel of Chrome’s performance.

“Builtin VPN costs a bit—but neat”

I used Firefox plus a standalone VPN. I switched to Brave and subscribed to their builtin VPN for $10/month. Nice to have firewall and VPN integrated, but it costs more and misses features like server choice and high-speed streaming.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Mozilla Firefox

Reason to switch : Wanted convenience of built-in VPN and firewall under one browser.

“Builtin crypto rewards—neat but modest payouts”

I switched from default adfree browsers to Brave because it’s the only one letting you earn crypto for watching privacy-respecting ads. I earned some BAT over a month—cool. Still, income was small, and converting requires crypto accounts.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Safari

Reason to switch : Was curious about privacy with rewards, not just ad-free browsing.

“Adblocking magic but tabs get heavy”

I switched from Chrome because I wanted builtin ad blocking and privacy. Brave did just that—pages load faster and daily browsing feels cleaner. But watching YouTube, it chewed through 1.8GB RAM just for one tab compared to Chrome’s ~700MB. That surprised me.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Google Chrome

Reason to switch : Wished for default ad-blocking and less tracking without extensions.

“Tor tab is awesome—but limited”

I switched from Chrome's incognito to Brave’s private with Tor mode for anonymity. It’s convenient to box that in a tab. But there was a bug leaking DNSnames a while back—though Brave patched it later. Tor mode can also feel snailpaced.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Tails

Reason to switch : Needed quick Tor-level anonymity occasionally.

“Lossy sync experience once cost me years of data”

I switched from Chrome because Brave’s sync was appealing and encrypted. It mostly works, but one time I lost my sync key and lost years’ worth of bookmarks and history. Chrome bounceback is better in that scenario.

Switched from : Google Chrome

“Open source trust feels real”

I moved from Edge to Brave because of open-source transparency—no mystery tracking. That felt good. But I remember reports that Brave auto-added affiliate links to crypto sites years ago. They reversed it, but that mishap stuck in my mind.

Pros :

Cons :

Switched from : Microsoft Edge

Reason to switch : Sought an open-source, noGoogle, transparent browser.
