Users with registered businesses can purchase goods from merchants on the platform to satisfy their business needs. Users are not permitted to utilize any products acquired through the platform for resale, advertising, business, or further distribution.

“Solid choice for 95% of filers, just know your needs”

For my tax situation (W-2 job, some stock sales) FreeTaxUSA was perfect. But I am flagging that if you’re dealing with many states or large business structures, you should check features. For most people it’s more than enough.

Pros : FreeTaxUSA is praised for being straightforward and good value.

Cons : Reviewers caution that if you have very complex tax situations (multi-state, heavy crypto, business structure) you might want the premium big-brand or an accountant.

Switched from : H&R Block

Reason to switch : We switched because H&R Block’s Premium tier cost more and for our simpler situation it felt overkill. FreeTaxUSA matched our needs at much lower cost.

“Some minor issues, but the price made them worth it”

While I did face a hiccup with the state filing this year, the savings more than made up for it. FreeTaxUSA still gave me a full federal return for free and handled most of my complexities.

Pros : Better and cheaper than the competition in every way.

Cons : A few complaints: Support was slow or I had to wait; one user reported trouble with state return and refund.

Switched from : TaxAct

Reason to switch : I switched because TaxAct’s pricing was rising and free options for more complex schedules were limited; FreeTaxUSA offered more for less.

“Great value for freelancers and self-employed”

As a freelance marketer I have 1099-income and expense deductions. FreeTaxUSA handled those forms without making me pay more for the federal return. That saved me hundreds compared to other tools.

Pros : FreeTaxUSA’s “Free Federal” supports self-employed and contractor forms without upgrading cost for federal.

Cons : If you want live phone/tax-pro support or audit defence, you’ll need to pay for add-ons.

Switched from : Taxslayer Pro

Reason to switch : I switched because TaxSlayer’s pricing for self-employed tier was creeping up and I found FreeTaxUSA gave me nearly the same forms at much lower cost.
